Bean Bliss: The Ultimate Black Bean Burger

For the Black Bean Patties
- 2 cans (15 oz each) Black beans, drained and rinsed
- ½ cup Breadcrumbs (use gluten-free if needed)
- 1 small Onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves Garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp Ground cumin
- 1 tbsp Chili powder
- ½ tbsp Smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 egg (1 tablespoon ground flaxseed mixed with 3 tablespoons water)
- 1-2 tbsp Olive oil (for cooking)
For Burger Assembly
- Burger buns (your choice)
- Lettuce leave
- Sliced tomatoes
- Sliced red onions
- Pickles
- Vegan cheese slices (optional)
- Condiments (such as vegan mayo, ketchup, or mustard)
Prepare the Black Bean Patties:
- In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher, leaving some texture for a nice bite.
- Add the finely chopped onion, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, ground cumin, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper to the mashed black beans. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
- Prepare the flax egg by mixing 1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed with 3 tablespoons of water. Let it sit for a couple of minutes until it thickens, then add it to the black bean mixture. Mix until everything is thoroughly combined.
- Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty. Make sure they are about 1/2 to 3/4 inches thick.
Cook the Black Bean Patties:
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add 1-2 tablespoons of olive oil.
- Once the oil is hot, place the black bean patties in the skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they are browned and heated through. If you'd like to add vegan cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last minute of cooking and cover the skillet to melt the cheese.

- Toast your choice of burger buns until they're lightly browned.
- Spread your preferred condiments on the bottom half of each bun.
- Place a lettuce leaf on top of the condiments, followed by a black bean patty (with or without vegan cheese).
