Ingredients

For the Burger Patties

  • 1 ½ pounds Ground beef (80% lean)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 4 buns Brioche or pretzel

For the Truffle Aioli

  • ½ cup Mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp Truffle oil (white or black, depending on preference)
  • 1 clove Garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Toppings

  • 4 slices Aged cheddar cheese
  • 4 cups Mixed greens (e.g., arugula, spinach)
  • 1 cup Sliced wild mushrooms (e.g., shiitake, oyster, or chanterelle)
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Notes

Prepare the Truffle Aioli:

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, truffle oil, minced garlic, salt, and pepper until well combined. Set aside in the refrigerator.

Sauté the Wild Mushrooms:

  • Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add the butter and olive oil.
  • Add the sliced wild mushrooms and sauté until they are tender and golden brown, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.

Shape and Season the Burger Patties:

  • Divide the ground beef into four equal portions and shape them into burger patties.
  • Season both sides of each patty with salt and freshly ground black pepper.

Grill or Cook the Burger Patties:

  • Preheat your grill or a skillet/pan over medium-high heat. If using a skillet or pan, add a little cooking oil to prevent sticking.
  • Cook the burger patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or longer if you prefer your burgers more well-done.
  • During the last minute of cooking, add a slice of aged cheddar cheese on top of each patty and cover to allow it to melt.

Assemble the Gourmet Burger:

  • Lightly toast the brioche or pretzel buns.
  • Spread a generous amount of truffle aioli on both the top and bottom halves of the buns.
  • Place a handful of mixed greens on the bottom bun.
  • Add a perfectly cooked burger patty with melted cheese on top of the greens.
  • Top with the sautéed wild mushrooms.

Serve and Enjoy:

  • Place the top half of the bun on top of the toppings to complete your gourmet burger.

Optional:

  • You can skewer your gourmet burger with a decorative toothpick or wrap it in parchment paper for an elegant presentation.
