Ingredients
  

For the Pizza Dough:

  • 1 ½ cups warm water 110°F/43°C
  • 2 ¼ tbsp active dry yeast 1 packet
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp salt

For the Pizza Sauce:

  • 1 ½ cups tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1 tbsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Toppings:

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Your choice of vegetarian toppings e.g., sliced bell peppers, sliced onions, tomato and mushrooms, black olives, etc.

Notes

Prepare the Pizza Dough:

  • In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center.
  • Pour the yeast mixture and olive oil into the well.
  • Mix until a dough forms, then knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.

Prepare the Pizza Sauce:

  • In a small saucepan, heat some olive oil over medium heat.
  • Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Add tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper.
  • Simmer the sauce for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat.

Preheat the Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) or as hot as it can go. If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven while preheating.

Assemble the Pizza:

  • Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
  • Transfer the rolled-out dough to a pizza stone, baking sheet, or pizza pan.
  • Spread the prepared pizza sauce evenly over the dough.
  • Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
  • Add your choice of vegetarian toppings.

Bake the Pizza:

  • Carefully place the pizza in the preheated oven.
  • Bake for about 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown, and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.

Serve and Enjoy:

  • Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a minute.
  • Slice and serve your homemade vegetarian pizza hot. Enjoy!
